Help to Buy

Help to Buy is an Australian Government initiative administered by Housing Australia, designed to support more Australians in achieving homeownership.

In March 2025, the Government expanded eligibility for Help to Buy, raising income and property price caps to enhance accessibility. On 13 June 2025, the necessary Program Directions for implementation were officially registered, marking a significant milestone in Help to Buy’s progress.

Housing Australia is now working to operationalise Help to Buy in accordance with the program directions, and expect to open the program later this year.  Participating states are required to pass enabling legislation for its operation in their jurisdictions. As of June 2025, Queensland, Victoria, and NSW have enacted the necessary legislation, while territories remain exempt from this requirement.

The Australian Government is continuing to work with other states to ensure Help to Buy can operate nationally as soon as possible.

Housing Australia will continue to update its website and stakeholders as further information becomes available regarding the commencement of Help to Buy.
