Investing in Social and Affordable Housing
Housing Australia provides opportunities for institutional investors to invest in the social and affordable asset class in Australia.
Social and affordable housing has become an increasingly attractive asset class for institutional investors. In mature markets such as Europe and the United States, investors have provided deep and successful support for the sector. The long-term, low-volatility and relatively low-risk cash flows from social and affordable housing make it a strong defensive asset within a diversified portfolio.
How we work with investors
Housing Australia works with institutional investors to expand the supply of social and affordable housing through Social and Sustainability Bonds. Housing Australia issues bonds to institutional investors and the proceeds are then lent to registered Community Housing Providers to finance the development and acquisition of social and affordable homes. This mechanism seeks to provide investors with stable, long-term risk-adjusted returns and meaningful social and ESG impact.
