Supporting home ownership: Tuân's Story
Tuân*, an occupational therapist in aged care and supporting people living with dementia, has recently been able to purchase his first home through the Australian Government Help to Buy Scheme.
Tuân’s story demonstrates how supporting more Australians into secure housing can provide the stability people need to continue delivering essential services in their local communities.
Before accessing the Scheme, Tuân had been searching for a property for a few years. Rising property prices, limitations on borrowing capacity and a lack of available support had made entering the housing market out of reach.
After hearing about the Scheme through his bank, he found it played a significant role in enabling him to secure a home, boosting his confidence and giving him a greater sense of security and financial stability.
Now settled into his new home, Tuân is less affected by fluctuations in market conditions and is enjoying the benefits of living closer to work. He describes his new home as very nice, peaceful and modern, with enough space for 2 people.
Owning a home has meant a lot to Tuân and he is now focusing on settling in, furnishing his new space and spending more time with friends and family.
Reflecting on what owning a home means to him, Tuân shared that “Having a home means security and freedom” – a common sentiment among many new homeowners supported through the Help to Buy Scheme.
