NHFIC notes the joint announcement on 28 March 2022, by the Hon Josh Frydenberg MP, the Hon Michael Sukkar MP, and Senator the Hon Bridget McKenzie, on changes to the Scheme in the 2022-23 Budget.

The National Housing Finance and Investment Corporation (NHFIC) today released its third annual First Home Loan Deposit Scheme (FHLDS) Trends & Insights Report, covering data on the FHLDS, New Home Guarantee (NHG) and Family Home Guarantee (FHG) for 2021–22.  

Overview

Housing Australia is commencing a Request for Proposal (RFP) process to expand the lender panels for the Australian Government 5% Deposit Scheme and Australian Government Help to Buy Scheme. This will increase choice and accessibility for home buyers across Australia as successful lenders are appointed to participate in each Scheme.

This is NHFIC's third annual First Home Loan Deposit Scheme (FHLDS) Trends & Insights Report, covering data on the FHLDS, New Home Guarantee (NHG) and Family Home Guarantee (FHG) for 2021–22.  

The FHLDS, NHG and FHG are Australian Government initiatives to support eligible home buyers purchase a home sooner. Collectively these initiatives are referred to as the First Home Loan Deposit Scheme (Scheme). On 1 July 2022 these initiatives were brought under the new Home Guarantee Scheme (HGS). 

Record low interest rates and government assistance have helped support buyer confidence and the housing market more generally throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Wednesday 3 February, the Australian Government announced around 1800 First Home Loan Deposit Scheme (FHLDS) places from the 2019-20 financial year would be rolled over into this current financial year.
