Contracts signed to support 18,650 social and affordable homes under the Housing Australia Future Fund Facility and National Housing Accord Facility
Housing Australia is pleased to announce funding has been committed to support 9,284 social and 9,366 affordable homes across Australia, through 279 successful projects under the first two funding rounds of the Housing Australia Future Fund Facility (HAFFF) and National Housing Accord Facility (NHAF).
Round One launched in January 2024 to attract innovative proposals, with a target to contract all preferred projects by June 2025. Successful projects from this round are set to provide more than 4,283 social and 9,366 affordable homes nationwide, with projects at various stages of delivery and some already providing a place to call home.
Building on these foundations, Round Two opened in late December 2024, applying key insights and lessons from Round One to speed up the procurement and contracting process. In partnership with state and territory governments and the community housing sector, the projects successfully contracted under Round Two will support 5,001 social homes across metro and regional locations. Round Two was open to states and territories with a focus on social housing projects, with strong participation reflected in the number of proposals meeting both jurisdictional and overall funding round delivery targets.
The innovative, collaborative, and partnership-driven efforts of state and territory governments, Community Housing Providers (CHPs), and their development and financing partners have led to the achievement of a significant milestone. Housing Australia is proud to have supported projects with a combination of Availability Payments, Concessional Loans and Grants – representing a total funding commitment of $14.0 billion for social and affordable housing.
Together, these rounds and the funding committed will support a pipeline of more than 18,650 homes, progressing significantly towards the program’s 5-year target of 20,000 social and 20,000 affordable dwellings.
Housing Australia Chair, Carol Austin said, “Access to safe and secure housing is foundational to improving social and economic outcomes and building stronger communities.
“Since launching Round One in January 2024, we’ve valued the engagement and contributions of our many partners. As the program has progressed, we’ve continued to listen, learn and refine our approach, which is reflected in the increased pace and responsiveness of Round Two.”
Housing Australia CEO, Scott Langford said, “Together with state and territory governments, CHPs, and their industry partners we have seen a strong commitment to innovate and deliver long term housing solutions.
“We will continue working with partners and refine future funding rounds, unlocking homes and investment to ensure more Australians can access social and affordable housing as quickly as possible.”
